Chiari Awareness Month
Many of us can live with headaches occasionally. This means that we don’t need to take more than some pain medication and a little rest. Chiari Malformation sufferers will find that waking up with headaches is a normal part of their month. The relief is often brief and unpredictable, and it is not uncommon for them to experience severe headaches. Chiari Awareness Month is a month to raise awareness about this condition. It, like many Chronic Diseases makes sufferers appear otherwise healthy, while also being an integral part of their daily struggle.
Worldwide, Chiari Awareness Month has been celebrated. The Electric Tower, Niagara Falls, and the Peace Bridge are just a few of the landmarks that light up purple during the Conquer Chiari Walk Across America. All across the country, state officials sign proclamations declaring September Chiari Awareness Month. Chiari is a severe neurological disorder where the brain damages the skull and presses on the spine and nerves. This causes debilitating pain, life-threatening symptoms and a need for more awareness.
Participating in a local walk can be a way to celebrate the month. These walks take place in your neighborhood on September 15, 22 or 23 depending on where you live. On September 22, you can visit one the beautiful landmarks lit up during the Buffalo NY Conquer Chiari Walk. Visit www.conquerchiari.org for information and education about Chiari. Chiari Awareness Month is not something you should let pass without learning about the condition and ways you can help or be understanding of those who are affected.
It’s no surprise that one of the best ways you can celebrate this month is to learn as much about the condition and the impact it has on the lives of those affected. There is no cure for Chronic Conditions, which affects thousands of people every year. We can help them by listening and understanding. Chiari Awareness Month can be used to spread awareness about chronic diseases and share information with family and friends. Every little step makes the world a better place for those with chronic illness.
