Community Media Day, an annual event, celebrates and raises awareness about the importance of free speech for millions of citizen journalists who share their unique stories each year. Community Media Day was established in Brooklyn, New York, but it is celebrated around the globe by all those who want to ensure that all media artists, TV, film and mobile, are included.

Community Media Day falls on October 20, which is almost always during the week of Free Speech Week. On Thursday, October 20, 2016, will be the first ever Community Media Day.

Alease Annan founded Community Media Day in Brooklyn, New York. Alease is a Brooklyn Free Speech TV station, which broadcasts community media. Community media stations across the United States will celebrate the United States’ Community Media Day, as well as the rest of the world.
