Duran Duran Appreciation day was an idea of a radio DJ in Michigan. Because it was his birthday, he chose the date. Fans around the globe have taken part in Duran Duran Appreciation Days since then.
Duran Duran Appreciation day should be viewed alongside the band’s history. Duran Duran was formed in 1978. Although Duran Duran is regarded as one of most successful bands in the 1980s, the band was challenged by music style changes at the end of the decade. The band didn’t give up and resurrected in the early 1990s.
Nick Rhodes and John Taylor, both from Birmingham, UK, formed the band. Rum Runner was a nightclub in Birmingham, UK. They were the resident band. John was the doorman and Nick was DJing at the club for PS10 per night. They began to play at the venue more often. Stephen Duffy was the first to sing in the band. Simon Colley joined the band quickly as the original bass player. This was the first time the band had a complete lineup for live shows. Colley left the band and several changes followed.
The first album, self-titled, was released on June 15, 1981. It reached number 3 on the UK Albums Chart, and remained in the Top 100 for 118 consecutive weeks. It was certified platinum by the end of 1982. It was split into two sides with five tracks on the first side and four on the second. Careless Memories and Planet Earth were some of their most loved songs.
They released 13 more albums after that. They released Rio in 1982, Liberty in 1990 and Paper Gods in 2015. Over the years, they have done numerous tours. Their first tour was The Faster Than Light Tour. It took place in 1981. They went on many tours over the next 40 years, and who knows if there will be more.
