Happiness Happens Month
What makes you happy? Happy Month is a month dedicated to celebrating the things that make you happy. This holiday is based upon the belief that happiness can be contagious and that it is possible to share one’s happiness with others.
Although it sounds absurd, Happiness Happens Month serves a very important purpose. The month reminds us that happiness is a small thing and we have to be able to recognize it when it happens. It reminds us how small actions can make a big difference in our happiness. It reminds us that happiness can be a personal experience, and it can also be contagious!
Pamela Gail Johnson founded The Secret Society of Happy People (SOHP). She is quoted as saying that “I started Secret Society of Happy People to provide a missing voice” for people who are happy. (Boo, Hiss! )”.
On August 8, 1999, the Secret Society of Happy People began celebrating happiness with Admit you’re Happy Day. Their members wanted the happy feeling to last a bit longer so they extended the celebration to include the whole month of August in 2000. The month was eventually renamed Happiness Happens Day & Month.
Happy Month encourages people take stock of their lives, to think and do things that make them happy, and share that joy with others. These are some ideas to celebrate the happy month. Do something kind for someone else to make them happy. You can do something as simple and as elaborate as giving up your seat in the bus to someone you care about, or even donating your time and money for a charity of your choosing.
Volunteering can bring joy to your life and help you live longer, according to studies. Wear silver shades because happy people see the silver lining. Smile and the world will smile with you. The Secret Society of Happy People offers a 31 Day, 31 Types of Happiness, 31 Methods to Feel Good Challenge, where each day of August will offer a new happy challenge.
