International Town Criers Day
Town criers were an integral part of urban life in olden days, when people had limited literacy and little access to printed media. Town criers were responsible to keep the population informed about the latest events and news, as well as disseminating information from the ruling classes to the larger public.
The town crier is no longer necessary due to the widespread literacy of the population and easy access to digital media. Town Crier Day honors the historic role of the town-crier and encourages people to assume the role.
