National Auctioneers Day

National Auctioneers Day

National Auctioneers Day is a day to celebrate some of the most prominent personalities, loudest voices and fastest talkers on the planet. This is a day to remember that auctioneering was founded more than 2000 years ago.

The auction actually took place around 500 B.C. Babylon. Stockholms Auktionsverk, the oldest and most active auction house in the world, was established in the late 17th century.

One of America’s first presidents, George Washington, loved to score himself hot deals via the mallet. The humble auction has evolved to include many financial institutions and marketplaces since the 1950s. Today, eBay is a common choice.

Many auctioneers volunteer their time to help others, sometimes in local communities, to celebrate. They are often seen helping to raise funds for charity events by volunteering their time and skills. Sometimes, the auctioneers are even put up for auction.
