National Call Your Doctor Day
It’s important to talk with your doctor if you’re curious about the history of cancer in your family. The risk of developing breast or ovarian cancer increases if you are a woman. Gynecologists play an important role in women’s health and education.
National Call Your Doctor Day focuses on the preventative steps you can take to lower your risk and prevent cancer from ever happening in your life. Where did this holiday originate? Let’s learn more about National Call Your Doctor Day!
Bright Pink, a non profit organization that aims to help women live healthier lives and avoid breast or ovarian cancer, created National Call Your Doctor Day. The company aims to reach 52 million women by educating them on prevention. It reaches out to women and their health care providers to encourage them to have more proactive conversations about healthy living and active lifestyles. Lindsay Avner founded the company. She was the youngest woman to have a double mastectomy for risk reduction in 2007.
She was at high risk for developing breast or ovarian cancer. Bright Pink was founded by her to help other women find the resources they needed. The holiday also served to encourage women to contact their gynecologists.
In 2016, the holiday was established to encourage women to complete their Well-Woman exams. Since then, the National Day Calendar registry has made this holiday an official holiday. Bright Pink breaks down the process and helps you assess your risk of developing breast or ovarian carcinoma in your lifetime.
This holiday can be celebrated by making an appointment with your OB-GYN gynecologists for a yearly checkup. You can also contact your insurance company to request a list if you don’t have a gynecologist.
You can also use social media to spread awareness about breast and ovarian carcinomas using the hashtag #CallYourDoctorDay. Talk to others about your personal experiences with cancer. You can reduce your risk and live a more healthy life by making an appointment.
