National Cheeseburger Day
On the 18th September, cheeseburger day is observed annually. Since the Roaring 20s, this celebration of one the most beloved and popular foods in America has been celebrated every year. Although the hamburger’s plain cousin was probably invented in the USA around 1900, it is believed that the addition of cheese to the hamburger wasn’t introduced until 1924.
According to legend, a teenage named Lionel Sternberger decided to add American cheese to a burger. He was working at his father’s sandwich shop in Pasadena California. It was delicious so he shared it with his father, who also liked it. The cheeseburger was born.
The original idea of cheeseburger was thought to have been created in California in 1924. However, in 1934, Kaelin’s restaurant, Louisville, Kentucky, USA, was the first to market a sandwich using the term “cheeseburger”. However, “cheeseburger”, as it was called, was trademarked at Denver’s Humpty Dumpty Drive-In in Colorado in 1935. People all across the United States claim credit for inventing the cheeseburger.
