National Corvette Day
The Corvette is an American icon in automobile history. It stands for freedom, speed, and victory. Find out more about this iconic car’s history and celebrate National Corvette Day!
The Corvette was the first sports car design to emerge in a otherwise boring Chevrolet line. It brought a new energy to 1953. The Corvette premiered at New York City’s GM Motorama Show. It was a sports car that arrived on the Flint, Michigan assembly lines a few months later, on June 30.
This car’s original model was a slow seller, selling only 183 of its original 300 production. The 1957 Corvette Super Sport, with its V-8 engine that produces up to 225 horsepower, quickly became a legend. The Corvette has been synonymous with speed and sport since that time.
Two flags are crossed on poles to form the Corvette logo. The checkered flag represents the race while the American stars and stripes flag is used to represent the production location.
National Corvette Day is observed on June 30, in honor of the date that the first Corvette was built. In June 2008, the United States House of Representatives adopted a resolution naming the day National Corvette Day in recognition of the 55th anniversary of the classic car.
National Corvette Day is an easy day to enjoy for car enthusiasts, with lots of fun activities like:
Take a look at classic cars and enjoy the festivities of National Corvette Day. The National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky is the best place to go on this day. This museum was established by a non-profit foundation, in 1994. It aims to preserve, educate, and celebrate the Corvette’s past, present, and future.
You can also become a member and join nearly 40,000 Corvette enthusiasts around the globe. You can join the museum at different levels for individuals, families, clubs, and businesses, or even for life. Members get free admission, discounted magazines and other fun benefits.
Open houses will be held at many Chevrolet and GM dealerships in various locations. This will allow community members to see the different Corvette models that may be available for sale. They might also bring in models from private collections.
Corvette owners know that the best way to celebrate the occasion is to go for a spin. Convertible owners may even be able to roll the top down and make neighbors jealous. You can even offer to take them around the block for a ride and let everyone join in the celebration of National Corvette Day.
