National Cosmopolitan Day
Cosmopolitans are one of the most well-known cocktails. They allow people to go out at night and have a lot of fun while they dance, laugh, and sing in clubs. This day is for those who love to drink cosmos on a regular or occasional basis.
National Cosmopolitan Day is here!
This drink has been around for some time and is considered one of the most popular drinks of all time. The Cosmo was created by Jace ShoemakerGalloway, a freelance writer who writes about non-traditional holidays. However, its history is very murky.
Some researchers believe that the Cosmopolitan drink’s first recorded origins can be traced back to the late 19th century. This is when a Cosmopolitan cocktail called the Daisy was created. It contained a mix of spirit, sweetener, and citrus. Even though this is not a Cosmopolitan drink, it’s easy to see why Daisy could be its distant ancestor.
The origins of this drink can be traced back to 1968 when Ocean Spray, the largest cranberry company in America, tried to market cranberry juice to adult consumers. The drink was called “The Harpoon” at the time. It contained an ounce vodka, an ounce cranberry juice and a squeezed lime. Although this was closer to the Cosmo recipe it still lacked the Triple Sec and/or Cointreau.
Legends vary about whether the Cosmopolitan was born from the gay subculture in Miami Beach, Florida or Provincetown, Massachusetts (where the cranberries actually grow). These can be hard to prove. Another legend claims that the invention of the drink was made by Toby Cecchini in Manhattan’s Tribeca neighborhood. Cecchini worked at the trendy Odeon bar and created the drink in 1987. It’s hard to say who made it, as the drink has evolved over time.
The Cosmopolitan gained popularity and was subsequently adopted by celebrities. Madonna was pictured sipping it at a Grammy Awards after-party. It was not well-known until Sex and the City brought it into mainstream culture. The series featured it multiple times and made a lasting cultural impact on viewers across the United States and eventually all over the globe.
Cosmos can be made as strong or as mild as you like, but vodka is what makes it one of the more popular cocktails. It’s time for celebration!
These ideas will help you get started on the National Cosmopolitan Day celebrations:
The best way to celebrate is to indulge in a Cosmopolitan. This sounds much more complicated than it actually is. This amazing recipe can be easily made at home, so don’t be afraid!
Mix 1 1/2 ounces vodka or citrus vodka, 1 ounce Cointreau orange liquor, 1/2 ounce fresh lime juice, and 1/4 ounce of cranberry juice in a cocktail shaker. Mix the ingredients in a chilled glass. Add sugar to taste. Garnish with orange peel.
Cosmo’s color is a favorite thing for many. Cosmo Pink is a brilliant pink because of the cranberry juice. Cosmo Pink would be a great choice for dressing up in to celebrate this day! You can find a Cosmo Pink pantsuit, Fuschia blouse, or pink scarf in your closet that will give a nod towards the day. You can also decorate your house, car, or office cubicle in pink to reflect the Cosmo Day vibe.
This drink doesn’t have to follow the same basic recipe. You can take it to the next level and add unique ingredients that will allow the Cosmo shine! These ideas will give you a new take on the classic pink drink.
