Junk food is usually high in fats and sugars. They are also delicious, more often than they should be. Junk food day is a great day to pamper yourself. National Junk Food Day allows you to eat whatever you like. You can also eat as much or little as you like. Tomorrow it will be back to healthy eating.

If you eat a balanced and healthy diet, you shouldn’t have one day a year when you can eat whatever you like. This is actually encouraged because it makes you more likely to eat healthy the rest of your life. It is entirely up to you to decide whether you want to embrace National Junk Food Day. But we are sure that you will!

We were unable to find any information about the history of this food-filled day. This day was probably created by someone or group of people who were concerned about their diet and wanted to eat junk food without guilt at least once a year. It must be authorized by Congress to be made a “national day”. It’s a day I enjoy celebrating.

What about junk food? How did junk food become mainstream? This coincides with the introduction of packaged foods in the late 1900s. For decades, home-cooked meals remained the norm. After WW2, however, junk food took off.

People were traveling more and eating out more. This led to fast food chains and the rise of frozen food. There was a wide variety of foods to choose from. But junk food was only in the 1970s that it started to be criticized. The phrase was actually created by Michael Jacobson, a microbiologist. His goal was to curb our cravings for high-preservative, high-salt, and high-sugar foods that we were consuming at an alarming rate.

There has been much more information and research about junk food since then. Many food companies have attempted to create healthier versions of the junk food we love most. However, junk food should not be a problem if it is allowed to be eaten occasionally and you eat a healthy diet. We all deserve treats from time to time, right?

Enjoy this day with sweet and salty treats! Make cookies, bake cupcakes, and make popcorn. You can also buy your favorite candy! Invite your friends to come over with their favorite snacks and create a junk food buffet. Then, spend the rest of the day enjoying movies and watching TV. For fun, you can always grab some fast food. You can cheat on your diet by having dessert for dinner.
