National Milk Chocolate Day

National Milk Chocolate Day

What makes milk chocolate different than other chocolates? It is a mixture of cocoa solids, dry or condensed milk. This lighter version of dark chocolate can be used in baking, but it’s also used in chocolate candy bars and hot chocolate.

Did you know chocolate can actually improve mood? Chocolate can actually make you happy. It contains theobromine, a stimulant, and anandamide. This is a reason to be happy!

Daniel Peter, inventor of milk chocolate was born in Moudon in the Canton of Vaud in beautiful, mountainous Switzerland. Peter went to school there and graduated.

Henry Nestle, Daniel Peter’s neighbor and settler in Vevey (Switzerland) in 1843, was a friend that Daniel Peter developed a strong friendship later in his life. Nestle had created a method to make baby food using what was then known as a “milky bread”. Daniel Peter was then faced with the question: “Why not make chocolate that contains milk?”

The young Daniel Peter remained captivated by this idea until it became an obsession. He realized that he needed to create a new product in order for him to remain in the chocolate market that was dominated by Kohler, Caliller, Suchard and Kohler.

It is a delight and a desire by the consumer.

It is important to remember that Daniel Peter developed the process. Francois Louis Cailler was twenty-three when he returned from Italy and France in 1819.
