National One-Hit Wonder Day
It’s the day we’ve been waiting for, a day that celebrates every artist who has given us one hugely successful song and all of the rest since. Steve Rosen, a music journalist, established National One-Hit Wonder Day in 1990 as a tribute to those who had five minutes or less of fame but then vanished leaving behind only a catchy (hopefully!). You can remember them with this song.
Lou Bega’s Mambo #5 has a wide range of one-hit wonders, from bizarre middle-aged Spaniards Los Del Rio performing the ‘Macarena,’ to Daniel Powter, beanie-wearing, singing about his “Bad Day”, via Lou Bega.
You can then sit back and listen to their music, wondering what these artists are up to now, aside from spending the huge royalty cheque.
