National Seed Swap Day

National Seed Swap Day

National Seed Swap Day is open to all budding gardeners who love growing new plants. Although there has been a tradition of people swapping seeds from the beginning, today people buy seeds. The old art of seed swapping is slowly disappearing.

On 26 January 2006, Washington DC hosted the first official seed swap day. It is now a national event. This day is where gardeners come together to swap seeds from their top plants. It is a great way to improve biodiversity in your local area.

A seed day party is a great idea for neighbors and friends, or even your local allotment club, if you have one. You must all bring your own seeds. If you don’t have any, swap them with heirloom varieties. Everybody could bring something to swap, so why not make something from your own produce? !
