National Starbucks Day

The first Starbucks store opened in Seattle’s historic Pike Place Market, Washington, more than 50 years ago. It was a shop that sold coffee, tea, and spices from around the world for customers to enjoy at their home.
Howard Schulz fell in love with Starbucks coffee after he was a Starbucks customer. He then joined the company. Schulz fell in love with the warmth and artistry of Italian coffeehouses after a trip to Milan, Italy in 1983. The coffee shop was transformed into a cafeteria and the company’s future changed dramatically.
Starbucks is often credited with instigating the coffee culture. This allows the average person to have more choices and more coffee options. There were many opportunities to try new types of coffee and different varieties of coffee beans.
Starbucks experienced significant growth in the eighties and nineties, first in Seattle, then all over the United States. In 1996, Starbucks opened international locations in Japan, Europe and China.
Starbucks celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2021. It had more than 15,000 locations in the United States, and another 15,000 in 80 other countries.

Starbucks’s drinks sizes are confusing for many people. It developed this way because Howard Schultz, a marketer, brought back ideas from his 1983 trip to Italy. The original sizes were European. Short was 8 ounces, tall at 12 ounces, and Grande at 16.
They worked well for a while, but Starbucks eventually discontinued the Short in favor of the Venti, a larger size that serves up a 20-ounce drink. This was named because the Italian word for “venti”, which means twenty, is used in its name. In a somewhat bizarre twist of events, however, the “Tall” became the smaller of the main hot coffee drinks sold at the shops.
In 2011, as the American thirst for cold beverages grew, Trenta was created. It holds thirty ounces, and is used only to serve cold drinks.
The Demi is another drink to be mentioned, but it is rarely used. This 3 ounce cup is used only for espresso shots. The name derives from the French demitasse which is “half cup”.
It’s possible to celebrate National Starbucks Day even if you don’t want to visit Starbucks as often or if it is too expensive. There are a variety of coffees available that you can purchase at a Starbucks, or in any other grocery stores around the globe.
