Rare Disease Day

Rare Disease Day is an annual observance that takes place on the last day in February. It aims to raise awareness and improve access to treatment for diseases most people don’t know about.

EURORDIS (The European Organization for Rare Diseases), states that many rare diseases are not being treated and that some people suffer from inequality. This is because they have never heard of the disease or don’t understand its needs.

EURORDIS has been creating social networks since 2008 to support people with rare diseases and their families. It also coordinates events at an international level for Rare Disease Day.

2010 saw balloon releases, marathons and auctions. To raise awareness, people with rare diseases are encouraged each year to share their stories and pictures.
