Sarcomas are a form of cancer that develops in connective tissue. This includes fat, blood vessels and nerves. Sarcomas, a rare type of cancer, are not less dangerous than other forms. Sarcoma Awareness Month was established to raise awareness about the disease and all those affected by it.

A group of activists gathered in Seattle in November 2007 to bring together all non-profits working on sarcoma. They decided that the world needed a month to raise awareness of sarcoma. Sarcoma Awareness Month was created by This group of sarcoma physicians was supportive.

A petition was created to gather 100,000 signatures in order to declare July Sarcoma Awareness Month. Although this is a relatively low number compared to other types of cancer, the incidence of Sarcoma increases by 15,000 per year. This form is especially deadly and insidious. To overcome the challenges of cancer, fighters must have the support of events and organizations like these.
