Ship in A Bottle Day
You will be delighted to learn that the traditional ship in a glass bottle has its own day. Ship in a Bottle Day is a celebration of the centuries-old art of creating a miniature fully-rigged ship that fits magically within a glass bottle. It is easy to assemble the ship by placing the sails and masts on hinges. Once it is inside, pull gently on the strings to lift the pieces up until they fit inside the bottle. These ships were originally built by sailors to help them pass the time during long voyages. Today, many people still practice this skilled craft. Ship in a Bottle Day, founded by the Ship in Bottle Association of America, is celebrated on Jack Hinkley’s birthday.
