Social Media Day
Mashable launched Social Media Day in 2010 and many of its users go to meetups.
Social media seems to have taken over the world these days. Although Myspace is long gone, social media has become ubiquitous. We hear about the latest topics on Twitter, laugh at social media failures, and people obsess about their Facebook news feed. There are still many other social media options, including Vine, Snapchat and LinkedIn. Businesses have realized the importance of social media in connecting with customers, selling their products and updating users about any issues.
Social media is a key factor in today’s world. It is how many people keep track of what their friends are doing, even though they may be on the other end of the globe. It is also a key player in global events. For example, Twitter was used to organize protests and provide information about events during the Arab Spring. A more superficial note: Twitter is a great way for celebrities to keep in touch with their lives – provided they don’t use it to post pictures of their lunch!
We can all admit that most people use social media for less than noble purposes. It’s a way for us to share our vacations and plans for the weekend. Most people present a perfect version of themselves online, including by posting unflattering pictures or suggesting that their lives are more exciting and glamorous. Don’t compare yourself to your friends on social networks. You are only seeing what they want.
Social Media Day has many reasons to be loved. Social media is full of opportunities for discovery. This is one of our favourite things about it. Everyone has the right to speak up. You can share your daily life, voice your opinions and show off your talents. Social media has often been a way for up-and-coming entertainers to gain stardom. Take Justin Bieber, who was promoted via YouTube. Social media offers a whole new world of possibilities, which is very exciting. People can also find news and information on social media. Many people will use Twitter to get the most recent updates rather than going to news sites as was the case in the past.
