St Piran’s Day

You might not have heard of St Piran, never mind St Piran’s Day, but this figure is central to the culture and identity of Cornwall, who hold him up as their patron saint and he’s also the patron saint of tin miners, who flocked to the south-west county to discover this naturally abundant metal.

It is St Piran’s flag a white cross on a black background which has been adopted by Cornwall, particularly its separatists, who have been campaigning for devolution (and even individual country status) since the 1950s.

Luckily, you don’t need to take your passport to get into Cornwall to celebrate the occasion with the friendly locals and like St Patrick’s Day, you can guarantee the party atmosphere will be there, with all sorts of events taking place on the big day.
