Steve Irwin Day

Steve Irwin, also known as The Crocodile Hunter, inspired people around the globe to become more concerned about the animals that live on their land. Australian conservationist and animal lover who founded Wildlife Warriors to support and care for animals in need in Australia and around the globe.

Australia Zoo established Steve Irwin Day in 2007 to celebrate and honor the legacy of Steve. He is dear to them, as the Irwin family helped create the zoo. Steve, then eighteen years old, moved with his family to Queensland in 1970. There they established a reptile park. This would become Australia Zoo.

Steve and Terri started the Wildlife Warriors program in 2002. It continues to support their dream of caring for as many animals as they can.

Steven Irwin Day is November 15, which isn’t his birthday. However, it celebrates Harriet, the Galapagos Land Tortoise, who lived to be an amazing 175 years.

There are many ways to celebrate this day in memory of Steve Irwin. These ideas will help you to think about wildlife and show your support.

The Crocodile Hunter was Steve Irwin’s television show that ran almost 11 years. It aired from 1997 to 2004 and had 64 episodes. Terri and Steve were featured in this wildlife documentary series on Animal Planet. It was one of the most popular series on that network at that time.

Other television spin-offs include Crocfiles and The Crocodile Hunter Diaries. A feature film, The Crocodile Hunter Collision Course, was also made in 2002.

Terri and Steve’s daughter Bindi have also appeared in their own show, Bindi the Jungle Girl, in 2009. In 2015, she won Dancing with the Stars.

Consider making a donation to Australia Zoo’s Wildlife Warriors program in honor of Steve Irwin Day. Every donation helps save lives by supporting the vital cause of wildlife conservation and wild places protection. Joining the worldwide force of Wildlife Warriors is an invitation. It helps to fund conservation projects and build a new ward for vulnerable wildlife that needs care.

To celebrate Steve Irwin Day, take a trip to your local zoo! Enjoying animals of all kinds is great fun. But don’t forget the reptile house, which features snakes, bullfrogs and turtles among many other unique and interesting animals.
