TM (Transverse Myelitis) Awareness Day

TM (Transverse Myelitis) Awareness Day

Transverse Myelitis is a rare condition with no known cure, and so, on June 9th, a day is held to raise awareness for transverse myelitis, TM, to spread information about the condition and help those who suffer from it.

What is Transverse myelitis?

Transverse myelitis is the inflammation around a section of the spinal cord, and can cause severe pain, sensory problems and changes in sensations, as it affects the nerve fibres in the spine. In some cases it can destroy myelin, the white substance that is around the spinal cord and protects it.

What can be done to help?

You can help spread information about TM many different ways, by sharing information with the general public, spreading messages on social media to reach as many people as possible. By doing this we can help those suffering feel less isolated. Getting the word out there will also help make this issue better known to health care practitioners, as because of the conditions rarity, it is often misdiagnosed and those who suffer from it can get the correct treatment they need.

For those living with transverse myelitis, it can be quiet isolating and they can feel lonely, so help out this Transverse Myelitis Awareness Day and help those suffering known they are not alone and that there is help out there!
