The International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) was the inspiration behind World Pharmacists Day. It was established by the International Pharmaceutical Federation’s council at a conference in Istanbul, Turkey in late 2000. FIP encourages its members to participate in making the day a success. The event’s purpose is to raise awareness about pharmacies and the health benefits they provide.

The organization announces a new theme each year so that individuals and associations in the pharmaceutical industry can create campaigns or local projects to highlight the positive work they do in improving the health of people all over the world.
